Design Concept

The idea of creating your path in life and overcoming obstacles is something that in general, all human beings can relate, El Camino building explores the idea of creating a space for homeless people that they can overcome their problems in all aspects and fi nd their passion in life in order to come back in track, return to their path in life, and find a reason of why life is worth the living. The idea of the path is what the ramp indirectly connotes, meaning the idea of their path to recovery that’s why the structure itself has many angles to portray these obstacles but in the end, you will get into your goal and this idea for them to recover from the streets and fi nd their purpose in life. This new design which will be found between old ruins within SCAD facilities, will create a contrast between the old and the new and as well it will allow SCAD students and staff to volunteer with the homeless in many activities such as involve them into the art community at SCAD due to the proximity of the building to the SCAD campus so that they can feel that they are fitting again into society, talking with people and socialising will also help them gain confidence and security with their own persona.
